RV Bathroom Updates: Introduction

When we got our road-beast, she needed some major repairs and some serious updating. While Danny was doing demolition/de-construction, I wanted to make sure we were also seeing something positive each time we walked in, not just more and more of a mess.

So, he toiled away at this:

The dining set has been removed and the wallboards peeled away. You can now see the rot goes the length of the slide. (BEFORE PIC)

I got started in the bathroom. The list of what the bathroom needed was the shortest list of all areas in the RV, so that’s why I chose to begin working there.

Bathroom repairs / updates:

  • Paint walls
  • Refinish shower/tub (solid enough / good enough condition that we didn’t need to replace it)
  • Replace countertop
  • Replace sink
  • Replace faucet
  • Refinish cabinets / paint green
  • Replace cabinet drawer with shelf
  • Add two new shelves in cabinet
  • Add shelving system on wall / over toilet
  • Update flooring

Here’s what the bathroom looked like when she came into our family.

The tub/shower looks like it started out a yellowish color, but got faded and dull over time. There was a white spot (high up in the shower) that looked like someone had attempted to spray paint it.

The cabinet was standard-issue RV with two shelves inside and a drawer. The bottom space under the drawer was wasted, so I planned to open it up and put in more shelves. You can never have enough storage! The flooring is typical linoleum that is scratched up and torn in places (especially around the door).

The mirrored cabinet on the wall was in excellent shape, so we planned to paint it and add some finishing touches. The metal shelf will be replaced by tall shelves that go up the corner and over the toilet. The walls will be painted and that border removed. The sink and countertop will also be replaced.

As you can see, we have our work cut out for us!

Luckily, there was no water damage to this part of our new home-on-wheels, so we don’t need to do any repairs, just updates.

Follow along as we update our RV bathroom, starting with that hideously-yellowed tub/shower.
